Hi Guys,

I've got a GA-6BXC Rev 2.0 motherboard with F3 bios that came with a Pentium 3 500MHz (non-Coppermine).

I want to upgrade the CPU to a Coppermine P3. I've got a Slot 1 P3 1GHz (100MHz FSB) that I would like to install.

I am just a bit concerned about the voltage. I'm not sure the voltage is supported (1.7v) on this board?

I've seen some people say that the board won't post if the CPU voltage isn't supported, is this true?

Thanks!

First of all, you should not be concerned with voltage on a 440BX motherboard.
The CPU itself requests the voltage (through the voltage request signal), and if the motherboard can't provide it, no voltage will be supplied (so, indeed, no POST). There is no risk of damage, if that's your main concern.

And secondly, yes, the 6BXC rev 2.0 supports voltages down to 1.3V (since it comes with the HIP6004BCB voltage controller chip), and it works great with Coppermine CPUs.

Earlier revisions of the 6BXC (1.9, 1.7, etc) have the older HIP6004ACB, which only supports 1.8V - 3.5V. On those boards it's only a matter of replacing the HIP6004ACB with the newer HIP6004BCB for full Coppermine support.

Amazing thank you, that’s great.

I’ve tested the cpu and posted without issues at 1ghz, I haven’t tried anything else yet with it.

You're welcome! That's an amazing combo you've got there (and that 1 GHz/100 MHz FSB Coppermine is quite rare and sought-after).
Enjoy the retro goodness! 😁

Yep just picked up the cpu for $60 AUD which is actually pretty good, everything in Australia is expensive.

Thank you again!
