Don't know about Gallatin support...the last BIOS to add any new processor support was 1.28 Rev. a which included a new microcode patch for D1 stepping Prestonia processors (CPU ID F29).

The very last BIOS issued for the Evo W6000 was 1.29 Rev. a (attached)

Hello there,thank you for your reply.I will install the gallatins mp tomorrow and report back.I also found another type of BIOS ver 4.17.0.50 .does anyone know what it is all about?

it seems the above bios i mentioned is for an nvidia vga card while the last w6000 is indeed the 1.29 version.Tomorrow i shall try to find a working floppy disk and update the bios.I cant wait to get my children to school tomorrow and pley with the compaq.Also does anyone know where i can find 4 x 512mb rambus memories for cheap ?thank you .

Well ,hello and hello again!!!! Actually my beloved compaq ml350g1 servicing me since my college years back in the 2000era had failed around 4 years ago and i had replaced it with a tyan s2885 dual ,dualcore opterons which i had since ....2006? Well ,my back up has always been there adding ide drives,sata drives ,scsi for the os,ssd now adays.....but i kinda missed something .Something that really matters a lot to me.What is life with knowing what is Rompaq or better yet Compaq....Behold the truth,sl79v xeon mp gallatins 3ghz do work with both bios 1,27 and 1,29.Now it is time to install the mobo in the ml350g1 custom tower.Now i will install a radeon 3850agp and i keep an eye open for 512mb rambus modules .The myth is busted.

Congratulations to the W6000, got one of these systems myself.
Good two know the Gallatins are working in it, so I should start looking for a second one.
You should look for some more/bigger memory sticks as 1GB is really low.
I would go XP, as its running flawlessly on mine.

I read in your footer you own a SP700. Is this the Dual Slot 2 Workstation?

Now I'm even more jealous. I killed an old SP700 I scored from work in the mid 2000's not knowing what I was really doing.
Still have the Xeon 450 and Ram from it though!
