Hi,
I am looking for some thermal 2-sided tape for hold down passive heatsinks that do not have clips.
I have various 386 to P1 boards I use for testing. I do not run them long. Maybe up to 10 minutes. I usually just put a loose heat sink on the CPU.
But recently I killed a board when I son came into the room and scared the s@*t out of me . I bumped the board. The heat sink fell off and shorted out all kinds of stuff on the board.
So I should tape these heatsinks down. They are low profile and have no fans. I like it this way for testing longer cards.

I am having a devil of a time finding 2-sided sticky thermal pads or tape. At least ones that are wider then 1/2", are less are 25 meters long, and don't cost a saw-buck!
I'm probably using bad search terms.
Can some one here point me to tape or pads that are about the size of 486 cpu's
Thanks

Your best bet is buying a bigger thermal pad and just cutting it to size: see something like https://www.amazon.com/ARCTIC-TP-3-Performanc … /dp/B09V53JVCS/

ThermalRight Odyssey pads are great.

They are mildly sticky. You can't knock the heatsink off sideways, and it would stick for several minutes if you hold the board upside down, but not for permanantly mounting on it's side/upside down. And you can take the heatsink off/on several times as well without it breaking.

I think all modern pads are mildly sticky like this...
