Hello !

I've got this DX2 CPU for a while but unfortunately it has a heatsink glued on it.

I only have a 486 rig from Tulip Computers in which I have tested the CPU, but the post screen is very simple with no information about CPU. Furthermore this computer didnt have a classic bios setup program (you need to run a program from dos, which I don't have yet).

Is there any chance that a chip guru could tell me what is this cpu with the backside markings only ? Is it and Intel, AMD, what Is the rated frequency ?

Vincent

It's an Intel, but I can't tell from the marking which model or speed. Is there no label on the edge of the heatsink?

I am not real expert at this, but wanna say that rounder corners on the cover make it an intel, by the fact it's not so close to the pins, smaller size, it's a die shrink so DX2, has a couple of key pins missing vs common Dx2 so maybe overdrive??? Mainly just guessing though.

If you have a box cutter and a mallet, these heatsinks aren't too difficult to remove.

You just insert the box cutter blade between the heatsink and CPU. Then gently tap it until the heatsink comes off.

I've done this successfully with a few stubborn heatsinks.

Merde alors, we didn't want that to happen.

Everyone check the calibration stickers on your mallets are up to date, don't want it giving you an 11 when you asked for a 3.

Well... at least the pins weren't bent.

The one in the bottom left area included, it only tipped.

That's the kind of force my wife would have used if someone mentioned there was a slight possibility of a live spider under the heatsink....

its supposed to be TAPPY TAP TAP..

Not beat the shit out of it like it fucked your girlfriend...

At least it was only a DX2-66. I guess.

It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.

I have two dx4 with that bottom.

Btw, next time, put flame on the heatsink. It will pop right off when hot
