Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit
Here's a bit of a story for you: Back in the 90's I was a PlayStation kid, didn't fully see the shining light of PC gaming until around 2000/2001. One game we had for PS1 was my brothers Need for Speed II. It wasn't amongst my personal favorites but it was a fun arcade racer, fun enough to consider getting the PS1 version of NSF3 after I started seeing ads for it in magazines during the time it was launched in 1998.
Back then some of my friends had PC's but none had the cash to get 3D cards when the 3D revolution started. I never saw 3D accelerated Quake until much later. I remember seeing Forsaken and Half-Life but I have no idea were they 3D accelerated or just in software mode. While they were pretty, they didn't blow me away. Then one day I visited a buddy of mine and I saw the PC version of NSF3 in its full 3D accelerated glory. That was the first and only time a game has totally floored me with graphics, I've seen many impressive looking games, games that have made me stop and just admire what I'm seeing, but 3D accelerated NSF3 utterly and completely dropped my jaw to the floor when I saw it back then, it was amazing.
I never bought the PS1 version of NSF3. Also I don't think I played the PS1 version of NFS2 all that much after that either 🤣
