Apologies if this is in the wrong forum, if so, please feel free to move it to the correct one.

I've just installed Windows 10 onto an old PC, and it's working fine, except that there is no sound. There is no sound card in the PC, just the one built into the motherboard, and the motherboard is an ASRock N68C-S UCC (CPUSocket) (BIOS version P1.60), according to Speccy (https://www.ccleaner.com/speccy ), and this seems to be the official webpage:

https://www.asrock.com/mb/nvidia/n68c-s%20ucc/

but there are no drivers for Win 10. Not exactly surprising, given how old it is, but I thought I'd ask here in case anyone knows of any such drivers. The onboard sound chip is a 5.1 CH HD Audio (VIA® VT1705 Audio Codec), according to the above webpage,

If not, then I can no doubt get a PCI sound card that's Win 10 compatible, so it's not a real problem.

Thanks for any answers.

the generic drivers from the sound chip manufacturer page works fine

http://download.viatech.com/en/support/driversSelect.jsp

you have to set :
Microsoft Windows
Windows 8/8.1
Audio
VIA Vinyl Audio Codecs

and download the version 10.1200 which is compatible with Windows XP all the way up to Windows 11 (probably in windows 10 and 11 you need to set compatibility mode to windows 8.1, or install via device manager)

Have you tried sound drivers for older versions of Windows?

No, I was worried that doing so might cause cause problems (when it comes to Windows, I have no faith...), so I was saving that until I had tried (and failed at) everything else.

It worked, thanks so much, that was exactly what I was hoping for. And thanks for the detailed guide, even I couldn't mess up there!
