Some folks back in 1996 discussing quake. Interesting and a few laughs as well, they seem quite lost regarding 3d hardware accelaration, understandably. Enjoy!

i hate to break it to ya but a cyrix p166+ will be at most as fast as a p133 in
quake... quake uses *alot* of fpu, and cyrix's floating point *sux* in
comparison to the pentium cpu... u shoulda went with an intel p166 or p200...

Ouchhh the bad CPU upgrade. Fun to see that these kind of discussions exist since computers exist 😀

Searching a Nexgen Nx586 with FPU, PM me if you have one. I have some Athlon MP systems and cookies.

But with an excellent video-card (2 MB memory or more)

😀

my experience of quake on a pentium 75 and then a pentium 166mmx was all positive to be honest..

Quake is not the game you want upgrade for . Trust me please. Jedi Knight or Unreal is the game to upgrade for

talking about unreal already!

Lol the "sux" thing pulled some nostalgia strings!

In 1996 I didn't care about upgrading my DX4/100 w/VLB video card for Quake for more FPS and so I could see more and higher quality brown. I'd just load up games which were more colorful and which could be played at higher resolutions. Upgrading never crossed my mind since it would be ridiculous to upgrade for one game, I'm glad my common sense has held up over the years heh.

Haha this was my thinking as well! I got the quake demo on a magazine CD and thought Doom looks better then this!? I ended up playing Duke3d but to this day have never bothered with Quake1.
and no way were my parents going to spend more money upgrading something that cost them $1000 less then 12 months ago.
