I have a domain being registered through Yahoo Small Business. However, I recently REGRETTED my decision due to horror stories I read about Yahoo Small Business does not allow you to change registrar (ie putting your domain in hostage, refusing to give the domain's authorization code, etc).

Fortunately, such horror stories came from 2006 (I registered my domain in 2007). Also, I have discovered my domain authorization code from Yahoo Small Business domain control panel.

Question:

(1) since I already know what the domain authorization code is, does it mean I can easily change domain registrar without Yahoo being unable to put my domain name in hostage?

(2) I also heard horror stories about Yahoo Small Business making the customer difficult to change name server (to change hosting services, I guess). What is the best domain registrar regarding this concern?

(3) Is expensive=best?

Never thought this thread would be that long, but now, for something different.....

It means it's easy to change hosting, doesn't it? Sounds great. But aren't there horror stories about godaddy? 😖

Qbix: I know godaddy, it is a great hosting company. And well the only lie I have heard of them was from the admin on KLT++, and he said godaddy could delete the site, if the site used bad language. And didn´t censor the words. But I took him in the lie, when I check their rules. But anyway godaddy is a good host. So fuck the admin on KLT++ forums.

I don't know a thing about their hosting. I only use them for the domain name. The hosting is provided by Colin

Qbix: Anyway, I think godaddy is great. And I just told a story which is true. Since they have no rules about cursing or not cursing. Cursing is just not nice. And I swear and curse every now and then.

Godaddy does have a history of doing things that they do not have authority to do: locking and revoking domain names when they receive complaints about the content of the site. I personally register domains using nearlyfreespeech.net.

Yes, it’s my fault.

So you are saying godaddy has in the past removed and revoking domain names for cursing and swearing or was it something more like porn or something ? Since if it has something to do with cursing and swearing, then I think it is crazy.

Actually, it was seclists.org, which publishes the Full Disclosure mailing list. MySpace was upset because someone posted a list of account information to Full Disclosure, so they called GoDaddy, and they suspended the domain. Read more...

Yes, it’s my fault.

You could always go with a registrar that handles one of the more controversial sites on the net:
