How risky is to use Styrofoam to protect CPU/Chip PINs? As in stick a cpu into a piece of styrofoam.
I mean, what if static buildup occurs or something?

You can use polystyrene if you cover it in conductive material. I use tin foil (cooking foil) for this purpose.

I was posting about this a while ago. I never did find a decent, cheap source for foam.
Shipping a CPU

I have some grey stuff that I scavenged from a computer store and from laser printer cartridge packing, but I doubt it is conductive.

I had a guy ship me a Pentium MMX chip installed in a CPU socket that he hacked off of a dead motherboard once.
