You can use polystyrene if you cover it in conductive material. I use tin foil (cooking foil) for this purpose.

there are special anti-static foam used for shipping CPUs... that is what you need to use
styrofoam creates static electricity, not what you want to use!

I was posting about this a while ago. I never did find a decent, cheap source for foam.

I have some grey stuff that I scavenged from a computer store and from laser printer cartridge packing, but I doubt it is conductive.

I had a guy ship me a Pentium MMX chip installed in a CPU socket that he hacked off of a dead motherboard once.
