I've heard ReactOS has been in development for a long, long, time. Does anyone who has used it recently feel it is complete and stable enough to be a great alternative to Linux Mint, Zorin Linux, or Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10? How far back does ReactOS hardware and software support go? Can I use it on 90's computers and even surf the web? What are the recommended system requirements? Thanks.

Your be better off with morphOS. Or at least basted on what I know from when I last looked into it.

I don't see it ever being finshed, or at lest to a point that it useable on a every day pc.
It's more of a fun play around OS from my knowledge.

Are you talking about ReactOS or MorphOS?

I look on Wikipedia for MorphOS and I don't see x86 hardware as part of the supported hardware list. All I own is x86 hardware.

ReactOS.

MorphOS is only for ppc apples, it would probity run better on you old x86 system better then ReactOS would.
That's how bad ReactOS is. You could not even use a printer with ReactOS until last year if I recall.

It's not to say ReactOS has not come a long ways. It's far better then it was 5 years ago.
If I were you I'd give it a try and find out for your self.

it replaces original winblows blue screens very well, window handling is bugged severely;

VM mostly or only very generic hardware support

i suggest playing with grenades instead - lower chance of it blowing in yer face

keep this satan away from physical disks holding important data

Ahem. From experience, I agree with this, albeit in less flaming terms.

Something regarding: "keep this satan away from physical disks holding important data" or something...

Is the Distro we're talking about full of security holes or something? Eh? 🤣

I think it's more like "hey, this is still very much in development, I'd recommend testing on a VM rather than actual hardware - less chance of some critical bug blowing up in your face, potentially taking important data with it." Even the ReactOS website says this: http://www.reactos.org/installing-reactos

I'm following ReactOS for many-many years now. First encounter (not knowing its actual progress rate), I was more than amazed. After so much time I'm more than convinced that I won't live enough to see it becoming a real OS alternative. Don't get me wrong, it's impressive and I like, if not admire the effort. But it's nowhere near "complete and stable"

Here is the ReactOS 0.4.0 Release topic from earlier this year. I tried v0.4.0 and v0.4.1 for a little while. In my humble opinion: The good is that it runs a lot of windows software. The bad is that hardware support is very poor and sound and directX mouse support are hardly implemented. And yes, it is still Alpha stage software, as everyone involved will admit.
Here are software tests for 0.4.1: http://www.reactos.ru/wiki/Tests_for_0.4.1

ReactOS is a necessary thing, but I suppose it is much more difficult to mimic an existing OS, then to make a new OS. I consider donating to the project whenever they add a feature I appreciate.

but you do understand that in some countries it need to be in testing stage forever to stay legal?

No, because I think you just made that up.
