Well I'm a IT Analyst and I drive a BMW...but what can I say? I guess I like to troubleshoot and fix things.....

I just bought this, it's a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu.

My 1990 C1500 truck has become very rotten around the cab corners and has developed some serious electrical gremlins this year, so it was time for a change.

Hopefully this thing is a bit more fuel efficient too.

I drive my wife up the wall.

I drive a BMW 340i xDrive touring, what a fantastic car. That inline 6 motor is a marvel.

Been driving this just over a year now (not my actual car exactly the same)

2009 V70 SE Sport. It's actually a sheep in wolfs clothing with its sporty trim but only has the little 2L PSA Diesel thanks to the deal Ford and Peugeot had at the time.
Volvo purists scoff (and rightfully so the mechanics loan car is a older V70 with the 5 pot and has a nice rumble) but its enough to fill its role as the family wagon.

It's interesting to see what comes standard compared to my wife's 2013 BMW 520D M sport.
I've got folding mirrors and drivers seat with memory. 2 things I'd thought be standard on a luxury brand like BMW?
She's got heated seats. Something I thought would be standard on a brand that prides itself coming form cold Scandinavian climate?

Wife's car IS more nice to drive, this is my fist FWD car and defiantly prefer RWD.
But this is more comfortable, built to withstand our 2 kids and enough space for all their prams, bikes, etc. and so much nicer to driveon small European roads compared to a SUV.

Thanks to it failing the London Emission zone which is expanding end of the year I'm 1/2 thinking of getting the same car just newer. if I do I'm getting the one with inbuilt kids booster seats though!

I owned a volvo once, many years ago, and it was good on the whole, solidly made and mostly reliable - but one the accelerator cable broke, something that's normally a quick fix. The guy in the roadside rescue truck said he actually had some in the truck that would work for cars that took standard cable like fords, but this car required a special part shipped - so it took longer to fix and was much more expensive

from then on i haven't owned a volvo simply because of the use of 'special' parts where no specialness is at all required. I still think they are quite good all round cars though, just tend to stick to japanese or ford and commonly available cars now

I do agree with the common car rule
I realised this back in 99 when Sydney had a really bad hailstorm. The waiting list for a replacement SAAB windscreen was something like 3 months due to not been a common brand in Australia.
Your run of the mill GM/Ford/Asian cars you were simply waiting for a timeslot.

One of the things on my list was getting something practical but also something I would never consider getting back home.
European brands make sense in the UK with the factories been somewhat local. So do the truly global brands but they are something I'd just as easily get in Oz

It's kind of a mixed bag with Volvo, they offer the same 3 trim levels as most manufacturers. German premium brands (BMW, Merc) are fully customizable depending on it's use. Fleet cars are usually pretty sparse with basic canvas seats (that are atrocious compared to Volvo seats) and very little bells and whistles and for private use the sky (or the wallet) is the limit. Volvo's basic (and especially sports) seats are really good, much better than the German basic seats, but when it comes to orthopedic massaging and air cooled seats there's no substitute. The missing seat heater is puzzling, I also thought every Volvo would have them regardless of trim. Most German models don't have them as stock, they don't seem to care that much about them in continental Europe.

First up, my daily sensible car - Alfa Romeo MiTo Cloverleaf; it uses a enhanced version of the 1.4 turbo motor from the Fiat 500. It's the 170bhp version with 6 speed manual:

Next up, one of my dream cars, and the only one I've managed to obtain so far (I think a Jaguar XJ220 is probably going to stay out of my reach...) - 1993 Porsche 911 Turbo. The '964' model with the 3.3 single turbo motor. Rear wheel drive, no traction control. It's slightly modded (replaced the entire exhaust system, manifolds and cat), so ~350-360bhp-ish:

I ended up not using it for track days for some number of years and decided to turn it back into a road car... but this time as has come to be called 'restomodded':

This would have had a 1300cc overhead valve pushrod 'Kent' engine when it was produced - but that has long gone and been replaced by the turbocharged Cosworth YBG motor from a Sierra Cosworth 4x4. Probably 55-60bhp with the 1300cc, it now has an engine tuned to approximately 330bhp. In a car weighing substantially under 1000kg.

Of course everything is uprated to suit - disc brakes all round (big vented 4 pots on the front), bigger axle, heavy duty adjustable suspension, 5 speed Borg Warner box, lowered and widened etc, it goes on and on.

It's also had a complete custom interior made - 1980's Recaro seats trimmed in leather, new carpets and door cards, full custom dashboard with Stack instruments, the works.

It's been in a 'limbo' state of forever work for the last few years, but finally 'got an MOT' this year, so is now road legal again and ready to hit the roads this summer.

Your Porsche is a thing of beauty but I'd take the Escort any day of the week, that thing is 100% fun 😎

Loving the Esky megatron, reminds me I have to get mine back on the road for its 50th next year ... October ‘72 1300XL but with a Mexico 1600, but only a standard Motorcraft carb. Will probably just get the 1600 warmed up and some better carbs.

My retro fleet also has an ‘89 Mercedes 300E but that’s at the mechanic who seems to have forgotten about it ...
