It was composed with MIDI, but for some reason I thought I had read it was original composed for the XG format.

Final Fantasy VII is oft-cited as being one of the few gaming titles to offer XG support. Few know or realize that SquareSoft had little to do with the XG arrangements though - Yamaha did it all in-house. In my opinion, SquareSoft's own SoundFont-based "conversion" attempt is more faithful to the PSX soundtrack, despite some dissimilarities.

I like Heretic music, heard through the SC-55.

Both Warcraft and Warcraft II and Settlers II.

Descent sounds nice through the SC-55.

And most Sierra games (they are in MIDI format right? 😦 ) - King's Quest V, Conquests of the Longbow, etc.

I've already mentioned this in the few other threads, but the music for U.S. Navy Fighters not only is awesome, it sets excellent mood for the game and its setting. It also sounds good across all hardware (FM based, and sound font based alike).

Also few honorale mentions that I think weren't listed already: Terminal Velocity, TFX (by Barry Leitch), Eurofighter 2000 (not as good as TFX but still atmospheric).
