So, I emailed the seller asking if this was supposed to be $29.95.. They insist that the price is correct, and that they have actually sold them at $3k..

Not in the past 60 days they haven't. Seller's a lying jerk.... I'd use other words but probably shouldn't here.

I agree, I had sent him that link in my reply. Needless to say, they never replied back to me on that one.

so except for lying on a topic that the seller is not obliged to give you information on, where does being a jerk begin? we do have a free market after all and most of You seem to support this notion.

Yeah but them trying to charge nearly +10x the actual price and then being all bullish "Oh no that price is correct and we've sold one at that price recently, so that's definitely what it's worth" when they never actually sold such a thing at such a is just them being a jerk in general.

I'd never buy from any seller that acts that way personally. Typical lying snake-oil salesman tactics. I'd get more honesty out of a used car salesman.

Maybe it's me, but why are they showing a pic of a board with "AOpen" written near the CPU socket? 😕

Holy hell, what happened here? http://www.ebay.de/itm/Soundblaster-16-MIDI-R … R-/282271322776

That's about 3-5 times what a Sound Canvas is worth, only marketed within Germany and not even guaranteed to work...

Can you really net more than $25 per CPU in gold recovery on these? The guy is asking $25/chip.

Not even close. If you watch the YouTube videos on how to recover gold from CPUs, they get *MAYBE* $10 from a "high gold" CPU. And that discounts all the equipment and consumables you need to extract it, along with your time. And by doing this at home, you create significantly more hazardous waste than happens in a large-scale professional e-waste recycling operation.

It's just sad watching videos from the people that do this - they have zero knowledge at all of what the CPUs are, other than "they are computer chips that contain a lot of gold." A guy did a "top CPUs in gold by weight" video, where he has no idea what the CPUs are called. He just calls them based on whatever is obvious about them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FL3MNYwoO_U

He calls the Pentium Pro properly, simply because it says "Pentium Pro" right on the headspreader. He calls some "AMD aluminum" "Intel black fibre" "Motorola"... His "most valuable" is the "Intel eight oh eight six, or eight thousand series..." Yup, a CPU that is actually hard to find and of interest to computer collectors who want WORKING items - he suggests buying to scrap to melt down to get the gold out of it...

Would be cool to build a modern PC in that case.

To me more than "outrageously priced" this is simply a very special and expensive collection, but more or less a fairly price taking into acount all that is included. I seriously doubt that he sells the full lot, though.
