I just bought this: any idea what is it exactly ?, I have not received yet.

Why would you (or anyone) buy something without knowing what it is...?

The "Sounding Board" is otherwise known as the "LANtastic Voice Adapter," and provides basic 8-bit AD/DA functionality. Other than DIGPAK support, there's not much gaming applicability here.

Maybe it was cheap and he thought he could resell it to someone who knew what it was and was willing to pay more than he did?

Haha! I paid like 10 bucks and I have a sweet spot for nos and everyting shrink-wrapped. Tho now that I know what is it I don't want it.

Picked up a Shuttle AI61 slot A motherboard with 256mb RAM, Athlon 750 CPU, and SiS 6326 video card for $15.00. This board has the AMD chipset, so it will work with Thunderbirds and I intend to put my 950 Tbird in it.

Are Radeon HD4K and GF8 considered vintage already?

Hehe maybe it's a bit too soon, but got to start working on DX9 setups before prices start to ramp up.

After a swap deal on AmiBay I got (again) a SCB-55 daughterboard 😀
The one I got does not have the channel reverse patch like this one (look at the cables at the daughterboard connector) :

my SCB-7 also has the patch, are all cards affected? I might do it on the SCB-55 as well, it's a simple mod...

You should not modify any daughterboard like that. Because host sound cards are inconsistent in their channel orientation too. So a rewired Roland daughterboard will sound reversed on some soundcards anyways. An adapter is a better solution: Midi daughterboard trouble (picture at the bottom)

oh boy! god I want that DB, used to have one, still have the printed manuals and drivers.

They was in a whole heap of "not tested" old hardware. Shipping from Australia would have ruined me, but I persuaded seller to send only two boards for me, so it become inexpensive. And turned fully working.

You've got a point there my friend... but on the other hand my boxed SCB-7 has the rewiring from Roland themselves...
The SCB-55 is now installed on my 401AT , I don't plan on installing it on anything else tbh 😊
The adapter idea is great, only drawback is that one should use some higher stands for the daughterboard and most likely sacrifice a slot on the mobo due to the extra height 😎

I can't speak to the SCB-7, but the later SCB-55 boards with the "01" PCB designation (revision 1, in other words) have correct L/R output sans wire patching.

I see... thanks for that info. I think the SCB-55 in question is rev0 , here is a pic of it: http://www.thepoorgeek.com/misc/images/IMG_0262.JPG

I'm using dell ultrasharp 2007 (and 2001) monitors for old computer.
20", 1600x1200, 4:3, ips or pva display, it has composite and svideo inputs.

Nice monitors generally, but they'll drop frames in 70 Hz VGA modes (at least the ones with IPS panels).
