CT3990 doesn't have genuine OPL, it uses Creative's emulated OPL which in most cases doesn't sound nearly as good. The CT3980 has OPL, though, so if you ever find of those cheap then grab it because it's probably the best sounding of all the AWE32's.

I was looking for the MGA 3D-Superpack disc for the Matrox Impression 3D accelerated games, but I ended up with the whole boxed card. In my two years searching for this disc it is the first time I've seen this card sold fully boxed:

Not in the best condition

I plan on uploading these discs to Vogonsdrivers

Alot of pages in this manual! There is a copy of this manual on the disc, so I'll be uploading it to Vogonsdrivers as it's not available on Matrox's webpage.

Even a big section on the CAD features/drivers

First time I've ever seen the ISA version of this card (VLB I've seen in pictures). I already have the PCI version, so it will be interesting to see how they perform against each other.

Since the Impression can''t do texture-mapping there is no need to upload any textures to the card, and it's probably not that fast anyway, it might not be limited very much by the ISA bus interface.

Mine has the hanging note bug 😒 But yes it has an overall good sound quality if I recall correctly (replaced it by a RAP 10 and sb16 ct 1747 combo and never watched back 🤣 ).
Maybe one day I will use it again with 28 MB soundfont just for the sake of it 😎

Edit :

Really nice find with that matrox card, is it rendering the same as software, but with faster speed or is there special fonctionnality ? The vlb version must really be something (must weigh a ton 🤣 ).

with only a couple of MB/s you actually can't call it "performing"

Very nice pair of items! There can't be that many PS/1s left now.

Now that IS interesting - I presume it's USB 1.1 only? Can't imagine ISA having the bandwith to run a USB 2.0 device somehow - then again, I'm surprised there is an ISA USB card at all!

Does this card has dos drivers? Is it even a card to be used outside some custom machine? Any more info?

No, looks like, this is new custom project, based on two atmel inserted in sockets. And this chip doesn't exist in 90-s.
