I'm surprised that no one has mentioned this one here before... "Typhoon 2001". It's an OUTSTANDING remake of Atari's "Tempest" and "Tempest 2000", with super-nice graphics, sound effects, and gameplay 😀

attached is a text format version of the game manual that I painstakingly copy-n-pasted from the Wayback Machine 😀

Atari Jaguar Emulator and "Tempest 2000"

YouTube Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ijjQpOuognI
YouTube Video (BETTER audio): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zw9Hh8j0ra4
Wiki Page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tempest_2000

Quite some time ago, Llamasoft released freely distributable ROM dumps of ALL of their old software titles for the old Atari Jaguar game console.

One of the games was the Atari Jaguar version of "Tempest 2000" (note that a PC version for DOS was also released back in the day).

FIRST OF ALL, this readme directly from Llamasoft: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1004067/downloads/lla … soft/readme.txt .

LLAMASOFT GAMES FOR EMULATOR USE ====================================== […]

LLAMASOFT GAMES FOR EMULATOR USE
======================================

These game images may be distributed free of charge to anyone
who wants to use them on emulators. Please feel free
to carry them on emulator sites or whatever. Llamasoft
feels that software old enough to be running on emulators
is not going to be exactly generating a huge amount of
revenue, and as such the images are considered by Llamasoft
to be in the public domain, and there will be *no* legal
hassles if your site carries the images.

Enjoy!

SECONDLY, you'll need a ROM dump of the Atari Jaguar "Tempest 2000" game cartridge: http://www.medwaypvb.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/llamadloads2.html , http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1004067/downloads/lla … Tempest2000.zip .

LASTLY, you'll need an Atari Jaguar emulator...

Jaguar Emulator version v0.06b (t2k_0.06b.zip)

Info thread: http://www.yakyak.org/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=41691
Download: http://www.apqb57.dsl.pipex.com/t2k_0.06b.zip
Optional CD-ROM BIOS (containing the Atari Jaguar's included "Virtual Light Machine" ("VLM")... which the Jaguar Emulator version v0.06b SUPPORTS!): http://www.xs4all.nl/~rdemming/Atari/JaguarCD / http://rdemming.home.xs4all.nl/Atari/JaguarCD/JagCDBIOS.zip

...OR...

Project Tempest v0.95
http://pt.emuunlim.com
http://pt.emuunlim.com/PTv0.95.zip

Personally, I like "Project Tempest v0.95" a little better, even though it isn't quite as "official" as the "Jaguar Emulator version v0.06b".

P.S. The original Atari Jaguar Tempest 2000 Tracker MOD format tunes: http://www.mirsoft.info/gmb/music_info.php?id_file=MjkzOQ== 😀

Thanks for this! probably temporary though while promoting the pre-order of SW2.
https://www.gog.com/game/shadow_warrior_2_preorder

I'm not sure about that. Steam has a "free to play" similar package (but it doesn't have the two expansions), and another "premium" package called Shadow Warrior Classic Redux (that includes the expansions and hi-res textures).

GoG put for free the Shadow Warrior Classic Completepackage but it also have released a "new" premium package called Shadow Warrior Classic Redux, similar to that premium package on Steam (Windows executable plus hi-res textures).

The normal package had a retail price of 5.99, and the premium package has a retail price of 11.09 (now with a 75% discount, 9.99 on Steam). Maybe after they release Shadow Warrior 2 the prices will be that ones, maybe they'll keep Shadow Warrior Classic Redux as free. Toss a coin to find it out 😉

P.S.: I don't know why those "premium packages" exist. They don't offer anything you can't get for free (there are free windows ports, and most HRPs are done and released for free). I said once that the best package was that offered by GoG (still paying those $5.99), because you get licenses the base game and expansions (the things that are copyrighted) and the other things are easy to find.

P.P.S.: Shadow Warrior 2 at $60? I enjoyed the prequel, but $40 was a better price. I don't understand how games have jumped from $40 to $60 in no time.

2.) Aloan Moreira homebrew games:

Cliffall: Treasures Of The Lost Cave is an enhanced Pitfall II style game for PC: https://aloan.000webhostapp.com/cliffall.html (the download button link is broken. use the link on the left to download)

An early build of Cliffall when it was still called Pitfall III: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AgeVSDKVW0EIjjv8P69dxBjH7ADh

Final commercial build of Cliffall/Pitfall III is up and it's called Akeni, but has a small price for those interested: https://aloan.itch.io/akeni

Flashdance game (unfinished): https://aloan.000webhostapp.com/flashdance.html (game updated July 3rd, 2017)

Note: Flashdance is an unfinished game, but has three playable levels based on the original Flashdance movie. Once at the title screen hit the "5" key to insert coins and "1" or "2" for number of players. "Enter" key seems to reset a level if you die or screw up. Arrow keys to control. On the first level avoid the oncoming cars. Get hit at least once as the death sequence is worth seeing. On the second welding level use the ARROW keys and CTRL key to clear the welding lines. The third level is unfinished and looks to be more of a video only level, but in the beginning you do try to follow the key moves. That stops early on and you just watch the video from the movie. You can see where that level was going in gameplay. Make sure to wait for the third level to end and a final scene will appear and a note from the developer.

To redeem games from Steam you have to use GOG Connect

nope , this won't work for Torchlight games if the keys are bought anywhere except RUNIC themselves. So as I mentioned before, a key bought from gamersgate is not eligible to redeem on GOG - they say so in the text at the bottom of the screem

Note that the GOG.com/reclaim promotion is available only for keys provided through runicgames.com – this does not include Steam keys, which are temporarily redeemable through gog.com/connect.

Yep, they say so 😁, and I did the same with S.T.A.L.K.E.R from gamersgate

What's the deal with BC Racers being allegedly freeware as claimed by Wikipedia? I can't find any traces of an official announcement or such, and the allegedly "freeware" release that can be found online doesn't contain any license file or whatever. It doesn't help either that this "freeware" version is roughly the same size and has the same file name as the pretty legit demo of the same.

Can anyone clarify? (Of course I can quite imagine that someone, knowingly or not, uploaded the freeware version some time ago to an otherwise legit downloads website, and someone else then used that site as a reliable source to include the game onto the Wikipedia list.)

Very interesting topic.
I'm suscribed to gog newsletter to know free and cheap games.
I discovered an awesome sites in this thread. Thanks to all.

When I was child I spent a lot of time playing with text adventures.

/* EDITED: Since the archive of Interactive Fiction maybe contains abandonware files I remove the link */
In Wikipedia you can find more information about the distribution of this genre of games.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Recently I learned that Anthony Hamilton, author of the classic game PowBall, ported it to Windows and made the game free:
https://powgames.itch.io/powball-deluxe

I played the DOS shareware version a while ago and liked it. A very nice tune is playing in the main menu.

^ note it's a bad Dotemu emulated "port" which tends to have huge issues regarding controls. Just grab it for the legal roms and play them on a much better emulator (like....any emulator that's not from DotEmu)

Really? I thought it was a real port tbh... Well good thing it's free then
I don't like dotemu , I got motoracer some years ago when it was released by them and it never really worked on my systems ever even after a couple of updates IIRC so I just forgot about it 😐
