This looks very cool. Free pre-alpha download of a new brutal FPS called Apocryph. Get it why they're still offering it.

Recently I've been running into websites I found via the Wayback Machine where companies would give away for free their old, pre-IBM games. I guess it would be nice to document such titles as the games in question should be quite playable in emulators.

Gremlin Interactive offered two old games for download here. The Polish developer/publisher Mirage had a pretty large selection of Atari, Amiga and a few DOS games on this page, but only some files have been preserved by the Wayback Machine (a later snapshot might have more intact downloads). Stuff distributed by Factor 5 has been already mentioned in this thread IIRC.

Legal Gremlin downloads are actually very numerous and is linked on the Amiga Forever website:

GOG not only yanked the open beta preview from their site after Thanksgiving weekend, but also in my personal account download library as well. Luckily I downloaded the thing before that happened. It has a playable campaign area to mess around in and it looks quite nice. So whoever grabbed it, enjoy, as it is not available anymore.

What's the deal with BC Racers being allegedly freeware as claimed by Wikipedia? I can't find any traces of an official announcement or such, and the allegedly "freeware" release that can be found online doesn't contain any license file or whatever. It doesn't help either that this "freeware" version is roughly the same size and has the same file name as the pretty legit demo of the same.

Can anyone clarify? (Of course I can quite imagine that someone, knowingly or not, uploaded the freeware version some time ago to an otherwise legit downloads website, and someone else then used that site as a reliable source to include the game onto the Wikipedia list.)

Very interesting topic.
I'm suscribed to gog newsletter to know free and cheap games.
I discovered an awesome sites in this thread. Thanks to all.

When I was child I spent a lot of time playing with text adventures.

/* EDITED: Since the archive of Interactive Fiction maybe contains abandonware files I remove the link */
In Wikipedia you can find more information about the distribution of this genre of games.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Abandonware site?

Quad9 does not like it.

I obtain a different result from the same source (Quad9)

I know this site from 15 years more or less, but if is not compliant with the forum rules I have no problem to delete it from this post.

My bad. My secondary DNS (Neustar) was blocking it. Regarding the site, if it hosts any abandonware, then it is not compliant.

Don't worry.
I've removed the link.
