Not sure how many already have, but just in case if anyone needed this :

The Situation :

1. When a game loads in a different resolution than your desktop size, and when you come back to the desktop, you see all your icons moved to different positions.

2. Any other programs which causes this after a resolution change.

3. You get frustrated to replace all your icons back to your favourite positions.

The Solution :

(The Recycle Bin must be enabled to show up at the desktop.)

1. Download Layout.zip.

2. Unzip the file. You will get 2 files :

a. layout.dll
b. layout.reg

3. Place the layout.dll in the WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 folder or WINNT\SYSTEM32 for Win2K/NT systems.

4. Double click (run) the layout.reg file. You can also Right click on the layout.reg file and select merge, to add in the functions into the registry.

5. The layout.reg file is safe and will not alter or monitor any functions of the system. Simply open this file with the notepad if you want to know what the contents are.

6. Next, go back to your desktop. Keep your icons arranged in the way you want.

7. When ready, Right Click the Recycle Bin. You will see two additional options :

I. Save Desktop Icon Layout
II. Restore Desktop Icon Layout

which is self explanatory.

8. Choose Save.. to save the layout. To test, simply move all the icons anywhere you like. Then click on Restore...to restore the icon positions.

Hope this will prove helpful for all those who need it. This utility made me smile whenever I use it! 😁
