There IS a slight difference in the overall sound, the SB2.0 recording does sound slightly filtered compared to the actual Game Blaster CT1300 recording. That's what i'm hearing anyway... 😁

That's what I thought I heard too! I've heard a GameBlaster "in real life", and it sounds really "clear and clean". I haven't yet heard a SB2 + CMS chips, but I would imagine it sounding different - sort of quieter/softer/filtered. Comparing those 2 recordings posted earlier, I prefer the SB2 + CMS chips version, although the difference betwee the 2 recordings is difficult to really notice.

I think the CT1350B sounds almost a bit softer (filtered), but it's slight and they're both pretty good. Honestly, getting a set of repro-CMS chips for a CT1350B is probably the easiest and most cost effective way many today will get to having a Game Blaster. Any idea if anyone plans to sell repros of the proprietary chip to retro enthusiasts? Like to those without EPROM burners?

I am waiting for about 10 of the chips to arrive and I'll be selling them for roughly the cost of the chips, postage and packaging.

Are there any other cards that support the CMS chips?

I'd like to get it up and running for my 286 box, but all I have is SB16s and an SB Pro 2.0.

It might be a couple of weeks until I get the chips. I ordered from Futurlec at the end of december and parts usually take about 6 weeks to arrive from there.

If someone knows of a better place to order GALs please let me know 😀

Marvellous news. I can now remove this PAL chip recreation from my never-ending todo list! I spent several hours examining an old Soundblaster to see what signals there are on the PAL socket, but the lack of PAL chip, PAL chip programmer and of course the SAA1099 chips did slow me down.

The chips have arrived, and have been programmed and tested in my own sound blaster 2.0 😀 Anybody interested in one of the chips please see the amibay thread I linked above.

Now I just need an SB 2.0. 🙁

I have a spare one here that works with CMS and Adlib, but the digital Sound Blaster part seems dead. diagnose.exe won't find it and even with jumpers and BLASTER set correctly games won't use it.

If you think you can fix it you're welcome to it. I see no physical damage on the card, I can only assume some component has failed - I'm guessing this won't be a simple capacitor replacement though...

Could be the ticket, it would go into my 286 system, so lack of digital wouldn't be a bad thing.

My big 286's motherboard has gone funny, I'm going to start using that Amstrad you traded to me. It has a volume knob for the PC speaker. Neat!

There was an Amstrad just like that one on ebay just recently, in Brisbane - I was wondering if it might have been you 😜

Anyway, if you want the flaky CT1350 you can have it, but it doesn't have the SAA1099P chips, and I may not have a GAL for it either - depending on whether or not I sell them all on amibay. (although if there's enough interest I will order some more)

You can sometimes find them on ebay. You could also try http://www.utsource.net or http://acpcomponents.com/

Just a heads up, I just got a price quote back from utsource.net, SAA1099P's are 3$ each+shipping and are in stock, plus they take paypal and ship worldwide. Sweet!

Edit: Just ordered a pair, 10$, coming from Singapore. Awesome.
