Okay, I remember playing a doomish (well, built on the doom/quake engine) game that had what I believe was instrumental of "Fire of unknown origin", "sole survivor", and "Veteran of the Psychic Wars" It was a like independent/homebrew that I (or a friend, I forgot) got at a thrift store. Am I just crazy or does anyone remember this?

Its entirely possible. Doom itself had a couple of tracks that were very heavily inspired by Pantera songs 😀

Thank you, yeah I have to agree that the original doom music besides being awesome did have some influences.

Doom isn't just a game, it's an apocalypse survival simulator.

my web detective skills haven't turned up anything yet, but I have to ask - do let me know if you do find out what it is. I'm lovin' me some BÖC at the moment, especially that album.

and yeah, Bobby Prince was definitely "referencing" everyone from Black Sabbath, Judas Priest and Slayer to Alice in Chains, Pantera and what have you. AFAIK he had previous professional experience in intellectual property law and knew what he could and couldn't get away with ;)

I am pretty sure the game that featured Blue Oyster Cult music was Ripper.

Yes, that's right. I have the game, and yes, the intro of that game has the Don't Fear The Reaper by Blue Oyster Cult. It's a FABULOUS song!!!

This is how it sounds - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMYSWiPm7E0

Ripper isn't Doom-engine / a Doom clone though... and doesn't seem to feature any of the specific songs mentioned in the OP.

http://www.blueoystercult.com/Media/videogames.html mentions it, but it also has an obscure refrence to a "Doom home-made level" with no link. The plot thickens...

Ripper is an adventure game starring Christopher Walken and others. It's a FMV game and comes on 6 CDs. The introduction plays the (Don't Fear) The Reaper song by Blue Oyster Cult.
