It's a discreet 7.1 analog. Digital Optical connections are attached and switchable. DVD movies make use of the optical out via the DVD software to make use of the digital decoding. My PII connects via the Live! Drive's optical out in Windows 95 and the analog stereo for the dos audio.

Isn't Live! 5.1 only? If you connect it to a 7.1 receiver (like Marantz SR-5002), then a pair of input jacks would be empty. Does the receiver capable to upmix 5.1 to 7.1?

I use the Live!'s optical out cable from the live! drive to the receiver. In the receiver I select auto mode and if the receiver receives signals that are Dolby encoded, it will automatically change the mode to that like DTS, ProLogic II, etc. Else, it will default to stereo mode. But I can still set the mode manually to one of the surround modes. If so, then the stereo signal will be upmixed accordingly.

The PII system has also the AWE64 Gold which connects to the receiver digitally via the coaxial cable, in addition to the analog stereo connection. The beauty of receivers are apparent when you can connect so many outputs from so many systems...

Yes, this receiver can upmix audio to 7.1, even from analog stereo inputs. (Or choose one of the modes - stereo, one of the Dolby modes, virtual sutround or auto...)

I believe I have already mentioned, that for headphones I use a pair of Sennheiser HD 429, and when it comes to speakers at my PC. Then I use a pair of old, but still smashing great JBL Pro speakers. That still kicks big time 😀

They should be OKish, but very heavy on bass overall. If that is something that you desire go for them. For the games you mentioned I think some good 2.0 setup is preferable though, but obviously there really is no set of speakers that would be perfect for all games.

I got these Logitech. They are very good, but for my retro setup I prefer 2.0 speakers.

I have a couple pairs of Boston Acoustic 2.1 Micromedia speakers. Purchased them new back in 2000 or so, the foam surrounds need replaced on the sub.

For systems with 5.1 audio I use creative T6160 speakers (50W). And recently I purchased a Videologic Digitheater 5.1 DTS speakers (220W).

I recommend Belkin SOHO KVMs for older stereo systems since it switches one mic input and one speaker output. For newer systems not sure what I am going to do about switching digital audio.

Well that looks a lot better than some plastic PC speakers. But I don't know what they sound like, of course.

If these are active speakers (with amplifier inside) you can connect them to any sound card.

Thank you jwt27 for your help. 😀

Look, these are examples from the back of some empire models:

I want to know if I can connect an RCA cable (2-Way) from the "audio in" of these speakers to the "Out L Out R" of my Sb64:

This is my audio setup:
EsGHIGX.jpg

All devices run through the mixer, which outputs the signal to the Grundig amp at the bottom. The left switch is for the MIDI devices.
There's "only" ~10 audio sources, so I wanted to have a mostly switchless way of using everything. I just have to switch between MT32 and the general MIDI devices should the need arise.

I don't have a good photo of the speakers, but here's one of them (prior to installing the mixer): http://i.imgur.com/2gvlF1D.jpg
They're old Summit SX-390 3-way speakers from...I'm not sure...maybe late 70s? I couldn't really find any information on them. If anyone can find out when these were produced (and if they were considered quality speakers) feel free to let me know.

I'm pretty happy with the setup. Before I had the speakers I used a Logitech S220 2.1 Speaker system (http://rayanehnovin.ir/sites/default/files/im … ech-S-220-1.jpg).
Considering they only cost ~20€, they're really nice. But I don't use them with my retro systems anymore since I got the speaker/amp/mixer combo.

They say that Summit line of Hi-Fi speakers was produced by Hans G. Hennel GmbH during sixties and seventies in West Germany and that Hans G. Hennel subsequently founded HECO. However, I haven't been able to find any info on this particular speaker model.

Hi,
I searched through all of our Jamo documentation and did not find any model listings with that model
That does not suggest they never existed, we just do not have any information

Many of the former Jamo models were engineered and designed by the former Danish based company which ceased to exist around 2005. Klipsch Group, Inc. USA acquired the Jamo brand including all remaining replacement parts and limited product data for some of the older models.

That is, so far nothing is found about your speakers.

Wow, cool! You actually looked them up. Now I've never thought about contacting the manufacturer, which would've been the most obvious thing to do, of course. I feel pretty stupid now.

Unfortunately it seems they know about as much as me here. A quick google search would've been enough to confirm that these speakers are uncommon, though.
