I've been using an ATI Radeon 9200 PCI for testing purposes, because it worked in both AGP and PCI Express boards. Unfortunately, I had to sell it and actually I've got no "testing" video card.

Now, I've bought a cheap ATI Rage XL (PCI) but modern motherboards are phasing out the PCI slots, so I'm thinking about buying a PCI Express to PCI adapter.

Has anyone tried one of those adapters with a PCI video card? Does it work well (=as intended, obviously a Rage XL won't outperform any PCI Express video card)?

Does Windows 7 still have drivers for that card (I think that chipset is still used in some servers, so it may be possible)?

Also, floppy disk controllers are almost phased out from motherboards, but are there any FDC PCI card? Something like that old ISA multi I/O cards?

I have traveled across the universe and through the years to find Her.
Sometimes going all the way is just a start...

I'm selling some stuff!

What would you be testing for on a PCIe motherboard that requires such an old video card? If you just need one for diagnostics, then wouldn't a Radeon X300 or GeForce 6200 in PCIe do just as well?
