I'm strongly considering getting a Dell XPS 27, which has a 2560x1440 screen. I'm wondering, though, how this would work with games or movies played in lower resolutions. If I view a movie or play a game in 1920x1080, will it appear letterboxed/pillarboxed, or scaled? Would the scaling create noticeable distortion? Are these silly questions? 😕

Most games these days are console ports that are designed for 1280x720 or less. At worst you'll notice bilinear filtered pixels on UI elements intended for those inferior things, or a bit of lack in vertex precision.

Dell seems to call this resolution "WQHD".... whoever gave us such superior acronyms as WQSXGA, WHUXGA and WOOGABOOGA must be sleeping on the job.
