Just north of Orlando. I see a 3Dfx something in that pile. Don't know if it is all worth $100. Maybe you guys can see some value here. I've got enough on my plate currently.

If its in geate shape 300$ sounds good. 500 if its sealed mint and a few fight over it.
Offering 25$ is just a dick move even for a bare card. Back when 3dfx stuff was well priced 50$ was the going rate for a 5500.

I hate how rednecks and uneducated people think there garbage is worth hundreds. Ruins the local market for me which is where I'm supposed to be able to get rare items for cheap or free.

If it's actually 100% original and new sealed in a box, $500 is not too far off for a new sealed V5 5500. $25 would be an insult and a joke for that. They're all worth at least $100 minimum more like $250 and up from what I've seen on ebay over the past few months.

Someone explain to me what the hell is going on here? 41 dollars for a 6800GT? not ultra, just a GT. These are like 25 dollar cards. I'm seriously hoping this isn't the beginning of poor people being priced out of GeForce 6 series cards.

It's an AGP card. The 6800 GT's in PCI-Express format are the $30 ones. The AGP version has always been a $60 - $80 card when they come up for sale. The cheapest AGP buy it now one on ebay currently is for $64.99 free shipping. I sold my 6800 ultra AGP card for $84 + shipping just about 8 or 10 weeks ago.

EDIT: Speaking of, this is actually a pretty good deal. 6800 GT OC AGP card + motherboard + processor + heatsink/fan + ram + I/O Plate for $69.99, seller is under-selling themself a lot here, at this price everything after the GPU is basically free. They're not even charging for shipping either.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/202078070246

You're thinking of Ultras. GTs were $15ish in PCIe and 30ish in AGP for the last couple of years. I'm not sure why they are spiking now. Someone had 8 of them for 15 but I missed my chance to get one because somebody (probably a scalper) bought the last 4.

No hes not. Good agp 6800gt can go for around 40-50$ For quite some time and often do. The ultras go fo around 70-80$

Any of you live in Indiana? Pickup only, but for a good price, might be worth the drive for the case.

I value items based on there usefulness primarily. A v5500 can do very little beyond what a V3 can do. GLIDE support was dead by the time the 5500 launched.

A vintage race car may have no practical use whatsoever but collectors may be willing to pay out the nose for one in mint condition.

Same with coins, baseball cards, etc.

Someone who isn't a collector can hardly impose their perceived value of something as if collectors don't exist... unless the seller simply doesn't realize the item is collectible. Which is obviously not the case with that 5500.

Dang. Emailed him about that Quantum 3D Obsidian 24x and he said all he has left are the CPUs and memory! Too bad! I get the impression he would have sold and shipped it.

Large lot of old boards and cards... hard to tell what's there, but its $25 cash only near Topeka Kansas. Could be anything in that lot... definitely some Socket 7 ATX boards though.

Thats missing the whole point of retro computing, people value parts based on historical context, rarity and the narrative/story behind the hardware not just because of how useful it is.

wow just wow. the voodoo5500 does far more then the v3 and no glide was not dead when the 5k was new. glide games were being made upto 2002 wile the 5500 was out in June of 2000.

the voodoo 3 can not play hf2, kotor1/2, halo, re4, AOE3, battlefront 1, wile the 5500 can.
the v3 sucks for high rez games wile the 5500 can play alot of games from the time at higher rez. the v3 can't play quake at anything over 800x600 with all setting on max with 30+fps wile the 5500 can.
the v3 can't do AA or 32bit color, dx7 among many other things.

And this dies not even account for all the driver development that 5500 has revived over the years.
saying this is like saying a gf2 or gf1 is not worth anything because a tnt can do mostly the same stuff.

Now the 4500 and v3 are about the same in what they can do.the 4500 and 3000 were so close back in the day the alot of folks said the 4500 is what the 3000 should have been.

Exactly!

I'm going to go find listings for rare silver dollars, priced near their collectible value, and give "best offers" of $1 with free shipping. I'm sure that's not offensive to the collector who had the wherewithal to keep\find\identify something that other's are willing to pay more for.

I do understand the frustration of things being priced so high if you just want to use them... but, that's just how it goes. People collect and spend money on weird crap. Apparently a lot of people who were into PC hardware at the turn of the millennium now have enough money to blow $500 on the stuff they couldn't afford back then. Its not really that surprising.

Very true. Not a collector, but would pay quite generously for the stuff I once had, craved for or for something with some historical meaning behind it.

Though I certainly can understand OP, if you not fully lived in the era or don't have a lot of sentiments going for it - usability (or pragmatism) are sure the main factors in making your decisions and in evaluating the price of things.

It would be very stupid for somewhat older generation to cry "Thief" though . I mean, I might not like all about modern hard glam-rock bands, but to directly accuse them of not being Van Halen or something - I would hate to end up twerking on a lamppost..

I thought it was all about ''usefulness''? Why are you even searching for ''rare'' stuff then? You sir are a hypocrite: as long as it is YOU finding the good stuff for nothing it is all good but as soon as others see a potential profit you always become pretty sour..... it becomes dull reading about it every time.
