One of my biggest pet peeves when it comes to computer use is when people try hotplugging PS/2 mice and keyboards. I avoid doing it because I know that it can actually damage motherboard chipsets and it doesn't even work half the time, but I still see people doing it and (deservedly) I give them crap for it. 🤣

I also can't stand it when people don't set their screen resolutions to match the aspect ratios of their monitors. I can understand improperly set aspect ratios if you have old hardware without widescreen support on a newer display, or lower resolutions overall if you have vision problems, but it still irks me when I see people running their 1080p flat panels at 1280x1024. 🤣

I hate it when people install games and then dive straight in without taking a look at the display, audio and control options.... Especially the display options as i've seen people running games that look like garbage on their high end machines until i make a few adjustments.

Another big one for me is when people don't reinstall Windows for several years, and they leave things as they are even if their machines take 10 minutes to boot up. 😜

To be honest, you shouldn't really need to reinstall Windows if you keep it all upto date and well maintained 😉. ... But i do hate it when people let all the crap build up and then come knocking on my door to get it sorted (friends & family). People who ignore viruses until their PC becomes unusable also give me a headache 😠.

Well what I really meant was that it annoys me when people don't maintain their systems, and they become slow and unusable as a result. I still reinstall Windows once in a while just to freshen things up, though I've found over the years that as I've gotten better at general system maintenance, I don't need to reinstall nearly as often. I used to reinstall every six months, but now it's closer to every 1.5-2 years. In the case of most people who DON'T know how to properly maintain their systems though, reinstalling often becomes the only real option.

Most people up here have switched to using USB keyboards and mice, but PS/2 stuff isn't uncommon up here. I personally prefer using PS/2 mice and keyboards because they free up my USB ports. 😁

Motherboards these days have a lot of USB ports. Hell, I have 8.

Your phone doesn't have _better_ pixel density, it has a _higher_ pixel density and you can't use it for a pc/laptop monitor or tv because you keep your phone closer to your eyes than those monitors/pc's. If you had the same pixel density on your tv as on your phone, you wouldn't be able to read most of the writing nor would you be able to see many details.

Huh? I keep my PS/2 keyboard and mouse on lengthy extension cables, which i find myself occasionally stepping on and unplugging. I've hardly ever had problems plugging them back in again afterwards.

(Nuts to wireless, I declare. Only causes more problems.)

PS/2 actually supports full n-key rollover for keyboards that support it, and overclockers also prefer PS/2 because of its reliability while benching compared to USB.

Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. No wonder why I am keeping an eye out for a friends computer so he is NOT going to get infected. The biggest lie is this one "I did not do anything". I had to say "fuck it" the other day. Cause a machine was FUBAR , with toolsbars and viruses. So I said to him (not the same guy). I am NOT touching that pc again. Thank goodness most of my computers are either running Linux that are fully updated. And the only windows pc, is fully updated and is running an anti-virus program. And it kicks ass.

If they're really fully updated, don't you have to reinstall the next distro update every year or two (if not more frequently) ?

This is actually another thing I was going to point out about PS/2; even though I don't overclock, I find that PS/2 keyboards and mice are much more reliable than USB. In fact, a while ago I had my main tower unplugged because I was too busy screwing around with the Alienware laptop I had just recently acquired, and when I went to plug my main tower back in it absolutely refused to work with any USB devices. 🤣 That issue eventually sorted itself out, but ever since that incident I've been using a PS/2 keyboard and mouse on it.

Back-porting is another good thing in some distros. But burning a distro DVD is not hard either with the newest version of it on. But then there is also long term support, or what ever it is called version of that distro.

I hate that lie too, I just tell them to stop sniffing around dodgy porn sites... They usually go red in the face and shut up after that 😁.

I spent 5 days out of town for new years. One of the people I visited told me about how his computer had "google" and a bunch of other sites that he seemed to be under the impression were installed on his system. I didn't bother to correct him.

When I actually saw his system it had 11 toolbars displayed in Internet Explorer. It took 5 minutes to close them because of how slow his system runs. When I tried to do a google search something called TheSeaApp appeared on the left side and kept coming back when I closed it.

I finally gave up stating that I wish I could stay long enough to teach him how to use a computer.
