a while ago I ran into this research paper about teaching a computer to play Digger (more oldskool PC scene points for that, I guess).

And source code without analyzing it myself is no proof that this is not an April Fools' joke. I distinctly remember typing a program from a PC magazine into a PC just to learn that it was an April Fools' joke joke when running it. In this case I'd first have to compile the stuff to see what it does.

After reading the paper I think this is probably for real, although written very much tongue in cheek.
