How do you define a "matched pair" for dual CPU configurations? Consecutive serial numbers, or just the same s-spec?

In the past when I have purchased Intel CPUs advertised online as a "matched pair", they always came with consecutive serial numbers. The dual PII Dell system I bought long ago also had consecutive serial numbers for the CPUs. However, recently I've seen several eBay listings describing a pair of CPUs as a "matched pair" just as long as they have the same s-spec. What is your take on this?

I think that match pair means that `both` came from the same batch.. So and having the same cpu cores.. of that production.

Core revision and S-spec. It honestly doesn't matter that much until windows XP. 2k, will warn you, XP will fail to boot with mismatched processors, but it can be overridden. vista and beyond it's a requirement. At least if my memory is correct.

It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.
