The MU80 certainly has the capability to sound better than the MU50 but I doubt you will find a game that takes advantage of that. The MU50 is already pimped... Chose something so I can record and you can compare it yourself 😀

Doom with tilakat's GM patches seem a great choice, stand by... 😀

edit: uploaded, don't know if they are the best midis to compare, open to suggestions

Damn, these got me pumped up. I will now have to listen to some more Doom music. Thanks Keropi 😀

Personally, I can't notice any differences between this and the MU-50. If anyone has recordings of it and is willing to share, I'd love to be proven wrong, I haven't listened to it for sometime now.

I wonder how "Gravis Midi" sounds ...

Gravis MIDI is good but actually sounds inferior to AWE in Tyrian. While in a lot of games Gravis might be better than AWE here is definitely not the case.

I wish i could provide some recordings, but the retro and Windows 7 machines are too far apart.

Allow me carlostex.

Here are 5 MIDI recordings with the GUS playing:

Tyrian - Asteroid Dance Part 1 (GUS ACE)
Tyrian - Asteroid Dance Part 2 (GUS ACE)
Tyrian - Buy-Sell Music (GUS ACE)
Tyrian - Tyrian, The Level (GUS ACE)
Tyrian - Tyrian, The Song (GUS ACE)

Now here are 3 recordings with a set of alternate MIDI files (direct conversions from the original LDS files - both GUS and SW60XG versions):

Tyrian - Asteroid Dance Part 1 (alternate version) (GUS ACE)
Tyrian - Asteroid Dance Part 1 (alternate version) (SW60XG)

Tyrian - Asteroid Dance Part 2 (alternate version) (GUS ACE)
Tyrian - Asteroid Dance Part 2 (alternate version) (SW60XG)

Tyrian - Buy-Sell Music (alternate version) (GUS ACE)
Tyrian - Buy-Sell Music (alternate version) (SW60XG)

The differences are, shall we say, quite distinct and interesting.

Ooohh, the pain......
