I love GoG.com, don't get me wrong, but one thing that annoys me about them is that they distribute the CD audio tracks for their games as low bitrate OGG files, instead of higher-quality WAVs or FLACs. They don't add additional compression to their FMVs or cut back other assets, so why mess with the music? Hard drive space isn't exactly expensive nowadays. 😜

It's probably to keep download sizes down, rather than HDD usage.

Download size is a biggie for sites like GOG, offering large files to shed-loads of people. Bandwidth costs are passed on to you, compressed audio helps with that.

As to why they don't re-compress FMVs as well... I guess it's a simplicity thing, they don't need to alter the game at all to support compressed RedBook audio, DosBox handles it.
