I'm working on a new website - http://www.doshaven.eu/ - which collects DOS games made in 21st century (from 2001 and on).

If you know any "new DOS game", that has not yet been added, please let me know 😀
(no Wolf3d mods)

Right now I'm going through http://www.mobygames.com/browse/games/dos/off … ,1d/list-games/ and trying to find downloadable files for listed games.

Haven't visited the site yet, but this is an excellent idea. From times to times people are asking about new dos games in forums (myself included) or the few new releases get lost in the net. It's good to have a site dedicated to this subject.

I really love this site and these games:

http://www.wieringsoftware.nl/

Games are minimalistic, but not too minimalistic, and lots of fun, and colorful graphics, and run from old computers, and dont take mutch disk space.

Because many "modern dos games" are resource hogs or written not verry economically. And here you can find the original infamous MARIO VGA. Not that pirated broken bulls..t floating around.

I am aroused about any X86 motherboard that has full functional ISA slot. I think i have problem. Not really into that original (Turbo) XT,286,386 and CGA/EGA stuff. So just a DOS nut.

"Linux Tycoon is the premier Linux Distro Building Simulator game in the universe.

Here’s some examples of the thrilling challenges you’ll find in Linux Tycoon:

Analyzing and selecting software packages.
Fixing Bugs.
Managing volunteers and paid staff.
Keeping the total size (in MB) of your Distro at a reasonable level.
And so much more
!"

And just two clicks from there.

"1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. Also robots.

2:22 And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. The robots found this to be gross, and vowed to build their own women. Without yanking ribs out of things and being all yucky.

3:5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. Also it will taste super yummy. Like a pop tart. Only even better.

5:11 And all the days of Enos were nine hundred and five years: and he died. Around this time the robots invented foam. This led, immediately, to the invention of foam swords. Which, 12.6 seconds later, led to the invention of LARPing.

6:19 And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep them alive with thee; they shall be male and female. But not the robots. Those guys are dicks.
"

Nice to see that some parts of the Internet are still worth visiting

I covered a trio of modern DOS games on my web show a couple years back: http://www.pixelships.com/adg/epf019.html

TBH though, the number of games made for DOS in the 21st century is tiny compared to what came out in the 80s and 90s. Since Windows was essentially a shell from DOS, using up valuable amounts of CPU power, it wasn't until Windows became an operating system in and of itself that game developers started migrating from DOS to Windows, though it was the advent of hardware acceleration which sealed the deal, as it was much easier to code hardware accelerated games in Windows than in DOS. :P

Great project!

Determining the "last DOS game" has always been tricky, since indie gaming and shareware and such.

I'd be curious what the last non-shareware commercial game was, which wasn't a repackage/republishing/expansion pack/etc., from a major label. (at which Gemini000 shakes his fist at me 😜 )

Tricky to figure out for sure though...

Going by MobyGames alone, it would be Orda: Severnyi Veter, which is a Russian Warcraft clone: http://www.mobygames.com/game/dos/orda-severnyi-veter

Sticking to games released in North America, it would be World War II GI, which is a rather lackluster first person shooter: http://www.mobygames.com/game/dos/world-war-ii-gi

Both games were released in 1999.... yeah... everything from 2000 onwards is either shareware, freeware, open source, a collection of older titles, a remake, a re-release, or some combination of those. :P

As I'm digging through dusty corners of internet, I'm finding some interesting stuff. For example I wasn't aware of http://sciprogramming.com/ - so many games!

Add them or not to add them? Probably yes, just without downloads, links to sciprogramming.com will be enough.

Retro City Rampage has a Win16 and a DOS-486-VGA port.

Sad fat people are never good at using complex programs.
