Yep, I hate to do this, but I need help remembering a PC game I played as a youngster.

Here are some points I can recall:

- Point n Click Adventure
- Scifi/space setting
- You die easily
- Not from Sierra, not "Beneath a Steel Sky".
- Some time in the period 1989-1994
- Was on the cover floppy of ---- some magazine. Sorry. I can't remember which magazine, but I know that's how I came to have it. I know it's highly likely to have been an Aussie or UK mag.
- Definitely not a CD-ROM title.

Sorry, that's probably not super helpful. But any ideas?

Any other clues?

Was it shareware or freeware or from a proper developer / studio?

What did the main character look like and how did the story start?

What did the first levels look like? Do you remember any objects you could pickup? Or any puzzles?

Was there an intro? Was there music?

I must have only been 5 or 6 years old.

Hmmmmmmmmmm.

The terrain in the opening scene I remember was...uh...dark blue rocky kinda surface, I think. And there were robots...patrolling...maybe?

Our computer had no sound card at that stage, so if it did have music, I didn't get to hear it. 🙁

Sorry man, I knew this would be tough, a total shot in the dark!

Edit: I think this might be it: http://www.mobygames.com/game/dos/universe/screenshots

Edit: Yes. This is it.

Wow! That game looks cool! I've never heard of it either, I'm definitely going to have to keep an eye out for that one.

Universe seemed like an odd one, I never figured out how to get out of the first screen and quickly returned it. Definitely something I regret, although not as much as returning The Hound of Shadown when I couldn't get it working at all.

Can someone help me with this?

It came out somewhere in the early to mid 90s.
A party of 4 setting out, can't remember if its turn based or realtime RPG.
You started out battling some slime enemies in a cave?
Then you have to build a ship to get across the sea or something.
But the ship is too costly.

You can make quick money by gambling at the den.

I am afraid that's all I can remember for now.

Many thanks,

That sounds amazingly generic, I don't think that one is going to be easy to find. 😒

God, someone played Space Quest 1 VGA, didn't they? 😀

Being Australian too I'm disappointed I didn't come across this one in my youth, but glad I can check it out now. Thanks Squall!

Magnuz, I'm trying to rack my brains on that one, it will be very hard because of the nature of the generic plot, but that ship building thing is bugging me. Sounds familiar.
If it's a PC game, is it a DOS game or a Windows game?
American, Japanese, other?
