What do you mean "chip spec"?
Like this:
http://www.beyond3d.com/resources/chip/32
Or this:
http://www.techpowerup.com/gpudb/30/radeon-9600-xt.html
Or something else?
Oh.. Sorry, I meant technical specs, the one that you can program on...
Thanks
Jack
You mean like register documentation? AMD has released the 3D Register Reference for R3xx series (which will include RV360), but I'm having trouble finding a working mirror right now. Here's where it should be: http://developer.amd.com/gpu_assets/R3xx_3D_Registers.pdf but it appears AMD re-organized their website at some point and broke the link.
You can find it via Internet Archive here: https://web.archive.org/web/20120210231149/ht … D_Registers.pdf
You might also look at X.org's documentation for Radeon:
http://www.x.org/wiki/RadeonFeature/ (has lots of links to other documentation/projects)
The only other document I've come across in the R3xx series is the R350 Technical Manual:
http://www.vgamuseum.info/images/stories/doc/ … 215R9800-11.pdf
Besides this and the other obobskivich mentioned, if anyone ever comes across any others for the R3xx series, please let us know. 😀

Don't versions of linux kernel or X11 server come with open source drivers for these cards?

There are open source drivers for Radeon based on the specifications released; that's documented in my second link (and to further confuse things, AMD also develops their own driver for Radeon, which is not FOSS). I do not think the Linux kernel proper has them "built in" though. 😊
i think he wants to make a radeon9600 for DOSBox
