In that event, still make sure you get a good mic, but don't go overboard on professional-grade equipment. If you're spending less than $80 USD (regular price, not sale price) you're probably only going to get a sub-par mic which you'll hate and want to replace with something better, plus as previously mentioned, if you don't go USB there might not be enough power from your computer to drive the mic properly in the first place, meaning you'd have to ramp up the gain which will result in background noise.

Might as well do it properly IMO. A decent USB condenser mic, stand, shock mount and pop filter are a good investment. LP videos with cheap microphones are a pain to follow.
