I finally gave in and got myself an Apple Silicon Mac, which, naturally means I needed to play a PC exclusive on it using an ADB keyboard.

Can the power button on the keyboard be used as an additional macro key or for sleeping the machine without having to reach for the mbp's touchid key?

Sadly no, it seems to not do much of anything. I am also unable to use an ADB mouse, but that may just be both of my mice being close to death for whatever reason.

My old Lenovo X220's CPU fan gave up the ghost. So I had to get a new machine as a replacement for my daily driver. 9 out of 10 times it refused to boot and was stuck at fan error. So I found this HP Probook 6460b as a replacement. Nearly same spec's, refurbished and at an affordable price. That said. As it is from 2011, then I really do not know if the HP is retro yet. I am running Linux and to my surprise, it booted the harddrive from my Lenovo without any issue at all. Everything worked, and I only had to re-enter the wifi password. It came with two 4gb stick's of ram, a total of 8gb. I had one stick of 8gb in my Lenovo. Both machine with the same type of memory. So it was a no brainer, swapping out one of the 4gb with the 8gb stick. Now I am running with 12gb of ram. Nice. And the best part, is that I did not have to move any data. Though I have done a full backup just in case.

Don't eat stuff off a 15 year old never cleaned cpu cooler.
Those cakes make you sick....

Anyone seeing any good crap in el dia del primo on Bezos' Bazaar? Plowing thru dot ca, looks mostly meh.

Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.

I was feeling what you mean, I saw some last year released tech which I thought I had noticed drifted down to maybe 40% off MRSP since they were "old" now, back up to 25% off MRSP.

Bought a Noctua PWM fan controller https://noctua.at/en/na-fc1

I need to tame the noise of the 140mm Noctua exhaust fan I am using with my P4S800-MX setup and hopefully reach a sweet spot .

With the fan at full power, I get 42ish degrees Celsius in the BIOS HW monitor for the CPU (3GHz Prescott on socket 478) and 30ish degrees Celsius for the board temp.
With the fan off, I get 45ish Celsius in the BIOS for the CPU and 35ish degrees Celsius for the board temp (also in BIOS HW monitor).
Ambient room temp is around 23C Celsius.

No idea if I should expect better as it's my first time trying to manage thermals on a Prescott using a MacGyvered DeepCool Gammaxx 300 cooler (I had a 2.8GHz Northwood back in the day with the stock cooler, AFAICR).

The good news is that if I do win it a Thermaltake case will have a system for it and someone on Craigslist can have a cheap Windows 10 machine.

The monitor I was looking at getting went up in price about 25%...

I scored a Samsung 27A704 (4K, 28 27 inches) when they were going for 250 CAN$ pretty much everywhere .
My only regret ?
Not getting 1 or 2 more .

Bought some parts to make the A1466 MacBook Air work once again (well, the system functions, just the iSight camera is DOA due to a cut cable and the hinges feel loose) and an Intel NUC i7-8650U mini desktop (might turn it into a Hackintosh running Monterey 12.4 or an HTPC once I upgrade the RAM to about 8GB or 16GB).

Well, in the interest of bringing a Thermaltake case back out from the pasture, I hope you win!

Bought a BF in July Asus E410M smallish laptop. 99$. Lasy years model w/ a 65gb ssd. Can add a 2nd. Want windows 11 and linux on there. I erased windows and successfully installed lubuntu. The similar but apparently inferior Lenovo unit I have is buggy. Have installed multie distros in the past, but now it won't let me.

How do you purge the bios boot menu? I'm thinking that may be causing some issues. There's about 8 items on the list.
