I checked the board over and it looked fine, I guess i should have just hooked a different power supply to it.

I've gotten PSUs in my hands which would look fine from the outside (with little dust and stuff), but were true potential accidents just waiting for me to apply power to

The 300 watt Bestecs are pretty decent in my experience. The 250's are just an accident waiting to happen

Main pc: Asus ROG 17. R9 5900HX, RTX 3070m, 16gb ddr4 3200, 1tb NVME.
Retro PC: Soyo P4S Dragon, 3gb ddr 266, 120gb Maxtor, Geforce Fx 5950 Ultra, SB Live! 5.1

Yup. Design flaw with the 5VSB rail on most of the 250W Bestecs.

A different PSU? It's a serious design flaw, not just an issue with component selection.

not anymore, but I bought one back in 2004 from Wal-Mart for my mother to use. It wasn't terrible but it was low end for 2004.

AMD Semperon 2200+ (later upgraded to Athlon XP 3000+)
512mb DDR333 2x256mb (later upgraded to 2x512mb)
Nvidia Geforce4 MX420 (later upgraded to a 6600GT I replaced in my personal system)
Some crappy SIS based board
40gb Hard Drive (upgraded to 320gb Hard Drive at some point)
Windows XP Home

It worked well till she bought herself a laptop in 2007, then I sold it
