I did some adding today, but I didn't delete anything. Which edits are gone?

Another thought I had, if we have a web link to support an addition, we can add it with a right-click to the cell.

The 450mhz all the way to the 800mhz pentium III came out in 99'.

There where 2 versions of the 800MHz one with 100fsb and the other with 133fsb.

Processors where coming out rapidly in the 90's, so that might get kinda crammed listing that under one bracket in the list.

It's supposed to be Top Hardware, so in that case, maybe just list the 800Mhz model for 1999.

I think the 800MHz should be listed in the Summary page, and all the processors listed on the year-specific page.

But there where 2 versions of the 800mhz though some people may not know that 133fsb was first introduced with the second version of the 800mhz.

Another suggestion: Freeze the left column and top row so that you can still seem them if you scroll off.

Does anyone else have any opinions so far on how it's being done? Suggestions for improvement? I like keenmaster486's suggestion of the top (best) component listed on Summary page, with other worthwhile components listed on the year-specific tabs. As Oldskoolmanic said, it might get pretty lengthy on some years if lots of components were released in that year, so maybe top 10 in those situations?

I never figured out if I deleted or changed any of elianda's entries, since I was logged in anonymous. If I did, my apologies, it was unintentional. Although I'm fairly certain I did not change anything, I can't swear that I didn't.

Good idea. Done 😀

And yeah, maybe top ten in the year-specific pages. I don't suppose a serious period-correct system builder looking at the list would be very disposed to consider hardware that wasn't in the top ten for that year, but what do I know.

When I was looking through old PC magazines and doing research on IBM PCs, I could not find any computers for sale faster than 8088 in 1982-83, and could not find any computers for sale faster than 80286-6 in 1984-85. There's not a lot of concrete info out there on the various 8088 and 80286 speeds and when they were available for purchase in PCs. If someone can fine-tune that, I'd appreciate it. 😀 For now, I listed the 8088-4.77 in both 82 and 83 and the 80286-6 in both 84 and 85.
Here's one of the sources that I could find some specific info on that supports what I put:

Great idea with this, I try to build some rigs based on best components in some years 😀

That must be a mistake. Do you mean the card with Vision968 chip?

As someone else said, this is going to be subjective, and based on the personal experience of the person entering the component. Matrox Millennium was another card released in 1995 that could claim to be the best of that year.

I inserted a line under 1995 to add back in the Pentium 133 (someone overwrote my entry with the Pentium Pro 200) and added the Matrox Millennium underneath the ELSA Winner 2000Pro. The PPro was a special case, and should be listed, but IMO the P133 should also be listed as the fastest mainstream offering of 1995. 😀

Well I think the ELSA Winner 2000 Pro-PCI 8 is really high end for 1995.
It uses the S3 Vision 968, has 8 MB VRAM and a 250 MHz DAC.
Here is an image: http://retronn.de/imports/hwgal/hw_graphics_c … ci_8_front.html

However it might be that the card was actually released in 1994 already.

If anyone has a question or suggestion to change an entry, you can right-click the cell and "Insert Comment". You can also (as has been done a few times already), insert a line and add a 2nd entry underneath the existing one. FYI.
