Stefan! Hi Stefan. 😀

Hi Stiletto 😀
So what music are you listening to?

Usually a lot of the same stuff I listened to in high school and college - 90's alternative, guess that's considered "oldies" now 😜

As for new stuff? some synthwave 😀

New Discharge
New-ish Salem (UK)
Less-new (but still new for them) Witchfinder General

Bands like this that can still pull it off in their *fourth* decade of existence are damn rare. 😀

Well I've only got a cassette player in my car at the moment so I've been listening to my only tape - a Pat Metheny compilation.

Aside from that I've actually been playing a lot of music recently as I got a spot on a local community radio station. I've been going through my vinyl collection on the evening shows and have even been playing some demoscene stuff 😀

Guilty pleasure time! Listening to Olivia Newton John - Deeper Than The Night on vinyl. I just love the entire album.

This ultra modern Denon receiver (AVR-X6200W) continues to impress me. The phono input sounds phenomenal. Nice, punchy bass. It actually sounds better than the Pioneer SX-1250 I have in my basement. I may have to keep the turntable upstairs!

So, you too, are listening to surround music. Me, I'm going to do the same after my AU-7900 is repaired, and after I find a good, sound-matching 3 channel power amplifier for my front L-C-R. Either that, or a sound-matching stereo amp like Sansui BA-2000 with passive Hafler/Dynaco circuit to drive the center channel.

Most audiophiles eschew surround music. Nah, not me. I like surround music, as long as it's ambience extractor instead of ambience generator. I'm not saying DPL is bad, but it has its own place (games and movies).
.

I actually just use the front L+R speakers (and subs) for music. I only engage all seven when I'm watching movies. 😀

Ah, I see.

When listening to surround music, I prefer either Hafler/Dynaco passive circuit, Yamaha DSP programmed for ambient extraction (instead of ambience generation), or Involve Audio Surround Master, to Dolby ProLogic, because DPL sounds exaggerated and artificial. Funnily enough, I actually enjoy DPL for games and movies, but not music.

Been listening to a lot of 90's smoothjazz lately, grew up with it everywhere and kind of never realized it existed until recently. So cool. 🤣

Stuff like:
Eric Marenthal - Easy Street
Warren Hill - Truth
Boney James - Seduction (Specifically the song "Aint No Sunshine")
Tim Heintz (he has a couple of good albums)
Kenny G.
Nelson Rangell

etc.

I never liked the "mainstream" music - even in rock - all that Zeppelin-Floyd-Purple-Bowie - Preferred more unique and strane bands, that were always "on second roles" -
Like the Band, the Grateful Dead, Marc Bolan/T.rex/Tyrranazaurus REx...
And of course, Dylan...

Also I like Fred Buscaglionim Itallian singer, and the Violent Femmes - American folk-country-punk band from the 80s and 90s...

And in Russian music - early Akvarium, Zoopark and the songs of the "tolkinutye menestreli" - Tolkienist minstrels - Tolkien fans, who wrote songs about Arda, Sillmarillion, etc))

In music I like a good mix of poetry and music itself...

Everything actually.

Good music is good music, be it death-metal, bubble-pop, disco, rap, classical, chillout, jazz, blues, rock, etc.. I love it all.

Anybody up for some Frank Zappa or Miles Davis?

Miles Davis, yes, but Zappa is way too weird for me. When it goes to 70's music, my favorite is something like this.
