I don't know much about storage, so hopefully someone can help me out 😀

I am looking for a cheap eSATA controller, I guess PCIe, that supports port multiplier.

A external hard-drive box with 4 drives will connect to it, but without port multiplier support, only 1 drive will show up. I haven't got the box yet, but want to plan ahead.

Thank you!

Both JMicron and Silicon Image based controllers will work a treat for this. Not the best for speed (but okay, I guess), but they work reliably. If you're unsure, have a look at the drivers from the vendor.

Your onboard controller might work well enough, though. The feature you need is FIS switching.

Someone linked me some cheap PCIe e-SATA controller with ASMedia chipset. They are only 10 bucks or so on eBay, so I've bought one 😀

I'm wondering if the PCIe interface might cap maximum performance?

It's just a USB, not a graphics driver 😊

Hey, what could ever go wrong with storage?
