I'm pretty sure Germans beat us in this matter, they popped pills like no tomorrow during the initial invasion and during the last few months of the war.

And few facts about computer-building. We have talented people, too, but there's kind of curse, I believe lies on Russia - almost everething goes in vain because of the government(... For example we had only one in the World practically usable computer, built on ternary architecture - 0 - 1 - 2 signals - it was the Setun' in 1950's. Also in the decline of the USSR we built the Buran Spaceship which was the answer for the Space Shuttle - it's computer allowed it to fly to the space and to return to it's aerodrome without any people aboard, which was cool, too...
