Pretty obscure request, but here it goes:

I was browsing some old media I had and I just really loved going through a lot of these now retro logos and covers for CD-Rs. The BASF design is pretty slick for example:

Can't find a picture of it but there were also some MMORE discs with some cyber girl with... blue discs instead of pupils. 🤣

So, while I was browsing these, I remembered owning a non-legit copy of Theme Hospital around 1998 on a CD-R that featured a frog on the cover! I can't find anything like that online, does anyone remember this sort of thing?

Do you have any other late 90's, cool designs like the BASF one? Share!

I do not understand the bizarre flower motif on Taiyo Yuden's products. I guess it's a Japanese thing. This looks like a box of tissues.

Even stranger is that it's apparently one of the best brands. I've been carrying around this box for fifteen years now, waiting for the right occasion.

I remember some (very) old Verbatim DataLife jewel cases with a dark blue cover, and a few years after that, a yellow/blue design (writing DataLife plus, metal azo or something fancy like this), some golden "Sentinel" discs(?), and Taiyo Yuden's "That's CDR/That's Write" brand with a black/blue/white cover (ca. 1998? used them a lot with my first SCSI recorder unit; the Yamaha CDR400t* at a blazing fast 4x, praying not to get a buffer underrun). These media were out a couple of years before the Creation, MMORE, Intenso, Sony, Fuji, BASF/Emtec budget brands filling the market, and you could feel that they were of higher quality.

*As a bonus, it came with Win32/CIH-infected firmware update straight from Yamaha's site!

(Comes out of hiding for a short time)

Usually I had the cake boxes (cheaper overall), but occasionally got some loose singles from friends and relatives.

I know this is a CD-RW, but had to post it; looks different from all the others I have.

There used to be a site, a sort of database, with tech info on hundreds of types of CD-R media. ATIP, exact byte size, product UPC, etc. I think it also included photos.

I don't remember what the site was called but I wonder if it still exists.

EDIT: Found it in an old bunch of bookmarks. The site is dead but some of it is archived. It also included DVD-R info.

Example CD-R info page:
http://web.archive.org/web/20050222111558/htt … cdr.php?ID=1545

All archived specific CD-R pages:
http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.cdr-f … tailcdr.php?ID=*

All archived manufacturer pages:
http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://cdr-forum … nbieter.php?ID=*
