I think Chess Mates is a cool game. I Especially enjoy the graphics. However, it does not function on Windows 10. Any suggestions on how to make it work without a virtual machine?
Or does anyone have any recommendations of an equivalent game that I can play on Windows 10? It does not have to be by Interplay.
There are few ways you can accomplish this.
1) VirtualBox. This games does not use 3d acceleration so VirtualBox would do fine. You will need however to find yourself a copy of Win 9x.
2) 86Box/PCEm. This will also work just fine. Like the above however you will need to source Win 9x.
As for other games, take a look at Battle Chess Special Edition. GoG has it so it might work in Win 10 .

According to Wikipedia, the game includes a Windows 3.1 version, so it should run in DOSBox with Windows 3.1.

If you want more suggestions, you're going to have to elaborate on "it does not function". What happens when you try to run it? Do you get any kind of error message?
