Hi,
I'd like to know which games you played on the pc so much in past (and maybe also nowdays) that you know every single bit of it and you could consider yourself one of the most expert players?
For me I can't say to be an expert on any games but there're some I played really infinite times, even if I'm certainly not the best player but for the pc it would probably be Stunts (Broderbund) on Dos. Back in the 486 times I played with it really impressive times.
What about you?
Bye

Half Life 2, HL2 Episode 1, HL2 episode 2

Wolfenstein 3d

Duke Nukem 3d

Commander Keen (pretty much all of them)

Duke Nukem (the old 2d side scroller ones)

Galactix

NFS Porshe

Crysis, Crysis 2, Crysis Warhead.

Magic Pockets - anybody else ever play this game at all?

Trasport Tycoon Deluxe

Sim City 3000 and Sim City 4

Wing Commander - Pretty much all of them, including Privateer and Privateer 2. The only one I never got into was Wing commander Academy.

Machwarrior - The original was still the best IMO. Crappy graphics.. but good for the time and the replayability was at insane levels. You could just keep playing and playing even after you completed the storyline.

I'm pretty much one and done with most games (if it's a game that has an ending). But I have completed System Shock I and Wing Commander I, II and III twice. There was one exception: back in the mid-to-late 90s I put hundreds, if not thousands of hours into Links 386 Pro and Links LS. I was involved in online golf tournaments and was ranked in the top-20 worldwide. I even was on the US Ryder Cup team a couple of years (US best vs Europe's best in Links LS).

The more I learn, the more I realize how much I don't know.

Games that I'll get the itch to play with at least once a year.

Doom 1 & 2
C&C and Red Alert
Duke 3D
Raptor
Hexxagon (5 minutes to kill game)
Iron Man Offroad (5 minutes to kill game)

AOE2
NFS 3, High Stakes, Porsche
Farming Simulator 2013

I'm good against a computer but probably not that good playing against real people on all those games accept NFS3 with the Holden, where I could lap other class C cars in hometown and NFS Porsche, loved the 356's and Carrera RS

I am aroused about any X86 motherboard that has full functional ISA slot. I think i have problem. Not really into that original (Turbo) XT,286,386 and CGA/EGA stuff. So just a DOS nut.
PS. If I upload RAR, it is a 16-bit DOS RAR Version 2.50.

Solitaire (what ... it's a game isn't it)

Good point! I remember in a previous career I ran a CNC on occasion and the controller ran on Win9x. During long cycle times, I'd play Solitaire and Hearts. 😉

I don't think I ever tried to "master" a game (e.g. get a speedrun or unlock all secrets), but there's certainly a number of games I played «infinite times»:

- Doom I/II
- Quake
- Duke Nukem 3D
- Street Rod 2
- Sims (1-3)

I keep a list of such games, separate from my other "to play" list. These are games I've played a zillion times, and plan to play a zillion more times. I call them the "Golden Games."

  • Quake
  • Quake II
  • Croc: Legend of the Gobbos
  • Need for Speed II SE
  • Need for Speed: High Stakes
  • Expendable
  • Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed
  • Star Trek: Voyager - Elite Force
  • Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast
  • Far Cry
  • Doom 3
  • Half-Life 2
  • F.E.A.R.

There are others I keep coming back to, like Age of Empires, Age of Empires II, Diablo, Diablo II, Unreal, and Halo: Combat Evolved, but I haven't played them enough to consider myself an expert yet.

Prefered divercity and disks like "400 games on CD" (not shareware) helped a lot. So there was no close to "expert". But.. I spent significant time to Quake (multiplayer/bots) and Diablo I/II, as there was good replayability.

There are excellent games I would repeatedly play again, but not infinitely, since the games are story-based. Examples are TIE Fighter and Star Control 2.
