We dont have a general discussion base here which I think would be GOOD so ill post this here.......

All the sites lately going HTTPS for NO REASON is sickening.... They are believing the lies, they are being scared by Firefox......

Those of us on IE6 (And maybe some other browsers also) have a hard time connecting to these sites directly....

REGARDLESS ITS SICK BECAUSE THESE SITES HAVE NOTHING THAT REQUIRES SSL!! (They are just drinking the koolaid and its sickening)

SITES THAT USE SSL FOR NO REASON ONLY BENEFIT THOSE WHO WANNA TRACK PEOPLE! (Google, etc)

All this SSL stuff the last year is just BS meant to scare people are get control...... Nothing going on that wasnt happening 5 years ago!!!

The message FF is spewing is just because sites are not using SSL and its sad people are jumping on it like its the end of the world!!

I love it when people say something wasn't done for a reason. There's always a reason. You may not agree with it or understand it or even want to understand but there's a reason.

Usually when people say there isn't a reason it's because they are emotional.

I would like to see this list of websites that in your opinion don't need SSL, also if they are even able to properly render on IE6.

Well this site DOES NOT NEED SSL!! (Its a reg message board)

https://www.radioreference.com/forums - VBB

Thankfully he doesnt force it (YET) -- I can use that site 90% .. (Have to keep changing the links back to HTTP) and another site that DOES NOT NEED IT is: https://forums.anandtech.com (Running Xenforo)

Those are just 2.. They are not BANKING SITES,they do not need SSL!!!

What if you were at a wifi hotspot with a laptop? Would you be angry over a site using SSL, or a site where you lost your credentials to some shady hotspot?

(i'd say the former, and probably angry at being wifi only and demanding a hard ethernet connection)

Using IE6 (so famous for its security the world was advised to switched to other browsers) and at the same time complaining about SSL?

How is it ironic? It is exactly because IE6 is being used that SSL is ranted about.
Besides, if someone is browsing the internet with an insecure browser, it follows that security in general is not a concern.
Not ironic, just inane.

Honestly to a small extent I agree with OP. SSL is a good thing to have and all. But it can make things tricky with older systems and HTPPS certs are a pain when the date on a system is not right. I been called up many times as some of the system at my work do not have RTC in them and they get there time from a NTP server. If the power goes out for a good time on that segment and the systems come back on before the NTP server no one can get work done and I get called up left and right.

A backup generator or systems with a RTC would fix that, but its not in the budget sadly. The other problem is when you just want to get a driver or something on a old system that lacks USB and you don't have any CD-R's or a drive that can read CD-R or know how to setup a FTP or something. This is where I recommend something like Phone drive, and a walled lan, but whatever.

In summery its a lot better to have SSL and HTPPS and we should have it on any/all sites with logins. Although rare it can be a problem at times. Also shame on anyone using free wifi or a hotspot.

IE6 on the other hand, Why? I mean I understand if you have a old system and all, but at lest use something Ok for its age.
I mean IE6 is evil and all.

Any system running IE6 should be able to atlest run firefox2 if not 3.6. And 3.6 was drop in 2012 so you get a much more secure browser. But if your running IE6 I bet your running 9x or 2k maybe XP? I don't think a newer browser alone will fix everything.

That all aside I sure hope he does not do his banking or buys stuff via IE6.

EDIT:
Also someone and splice into a Ethernet cable or coaxial cable on the pole and pull login info too. I seen that done before. So your not always safe even on your home network.

Doesn't he have at least something of a point regarding this part?
Not that we can do much about it (if anything), but still. I think it is kinda worrying (something along the lines of Big Brother?).

Dude111, could you care to at least explain what you're talking about? Raving here won't bring you much anyway.

Its all about control and it IS scary!

Describe the newly acquired "control" that "they" now have over users browsing HTTPS and/or SSL websites?
