I would totally buy it. I still remember how impressed I was when I saw first time SC2. That spinning star station..oh man...
Although, at the risk of being bashed for it, I actually liked SC3 a lot. I bought the original game back then, and I enjoyed it.

Awesome announcement. SC2 is on the short list of my favorite games ever made (which is impossible to really pin down to 1 game).
I guess it will be a while before we know how "modernized" the game will be, but I hopefully it stays in the traditional 2D style.
The comment about Fwiffo makes me a little paranoid. I hope they don't fall into the trap of too much callback references and "fan service" stuff. Obviously I'm reading too much into that at this stage though.
I do hope it has nice techno soundtrack like the 1992 Star Control II, instead of the lame soundtrack of Star Control III.
