Hey guys, been a LONG time since I've really been on here but recently I decided to recreate two very 90's looking wallpapers featured in (and only in to the best of my knowledge) Windows 3.0!

First up is a weird but kind of awesome wallpaper featuring ribbons and pyramids, thus I call it Ribbons and Triangles. 🤣

Here we see the original:

and here is my 800x600 recreation!

Now of course I was irked by the fact that it didn't tile seemlessly so I created a few versions that do!
Small Checkerboard:

Large Checkerboard:

and one with shadows to give it a bit more depth. 🤣

Now second up is a colourful one with various shapes, thusly I call it shapes.

And once again here is my recreation in 800x600:

This next one was accidental but it turned out kinda cool imo:

and of course I went and made it seemless!

So yeah hopefully someone gets a kick out of this. 🤣

The notSavedByTheBell one could have a cuople changes:

- the purple ball's shading could be flipped
- you're missing the inset square over the whole image

What version of Windows was that chessboard wallpaper image from?

Back in those days I had a wallpaper changer program called "The Surrealistic World of Tito Salomoni". No idea if this still exists anywhere.

Is this too much voodoo?

I know these 2 well! Great work I'm going to try them out on my Win9X builds (I tried them tiled on my 1080P Win10 machine and "My eyes! The goggles do nothing!")

Oh yes that's it, I'd forgotten the company was Second Nature.

Nowadays I use Wallmaster by Tropical Wares. It hasn't been updated since 2002 though and can't use webp images. What alternatives are there?

Is this too much voodoo?

I like that you enhanced the resolution, but maybe you can drop it down to 256 colour for some rad dithering.

I don't think there are special '216 color' images. Of course an image can use only 216 colors out of
256 or 64K/16M colors but it does not change the format/bit depth of the picture. For 216 colors you need to use at least a 8 bit (256) color palette.

Windows in 256 color video modes (it's not just Win 3.1) reserves 20 palette entries from 256 so only 236 are freely available. For best compatibility with 256 color video modes you should include this 20 palette entries in the picture's palette in a special way: 10 fixed Windows colors at the beginning and 10 fixed Windows colors at the end of the palette.
E.g. Paint Shop Pro has an option for this when you set a picture's color depth to 8 bit (256 color):
