General Old Hardware has grown and is constantly growing so huge that i think it will be not possible to find anything there without search engine.

How about adding new categories:
-Motherboard
-Processor
-Memory - ram stick, memory board
-Storage - hdd, floppy, cd, dvd, pendrive, cartridge, memory card, casette
-Pointing - mouse, keyboard, joystick, trackball
-Network - card
-Case, PSU, fan, heatsink
-Printer, Scanner, Fax

In general, what's the problem with using the built-in search on the forum?

However, in principle I find splitting large forums a good idea. However, I think your proposal is a bit too granular. For example - motherboard and processor frequently go together, etc.

I would propose to split it maybe like this:

- Whole systems
- Core components (motherboard, CPU, RAM)
- Storage (including memory cards; dunno why you had them next to RAM)
- Sound and video already have their respective subforums
- Peripherals (covering everything else)

Yeah I dunno, I've already stopped visiting some sub forums like 'Software' and 'Video' because I tend to be less interested in those and am lazy, so I'm probably missing out on some good stuff.

There's not that much activity in the General Hardware forum that stuff zooms off the first page too quickly and Google finds stuff when I want to refer back.

Life? Don't talk to me about life.

While I read more than I post I'd prefer not to break it down any further. As with others I'm probably missing things since Marvin was split as I usually now read general more than any of the subforums...

I almost always just use the "View active topics" link and that gets you the active topics from all the categories.

The only time I actually go into the actual categories is when I start a new thread.
