I'm curious to know how many here wear corrective lenses that grew up with CRTs vs LCDs and rampant smartphone use.

I'm 36 and AFAIK my vision is quite good. I grew up in front of the TV with NES and SNES (mostly Sim City) and later on in front of EGA and VGA monitors up until the early 2000s when I retired my dual 21 inch Mitsubishi DiamondScan and a 20 inch Samsung setup and went with LCDs. I also have read a decent amount of books during that time, and so far require no corrective lenses. I'm sure the day will come by the time I am 45.

However, I only spend about 10 minutes a day (tops) looking at my smartphone screen (I don't have a data plan and my phone is quite aged).

I heard about this study on the radio today and found something similar on line:

Out of curiosity, how many of you wear corrective lenses as a result of computer VDT use?

I wear glasses when I'm in front of a computer screen since I cannot read from a certain distance (I'm nearsighted) and the glare causes headaches as well. I've been wearing glasses since I was 17 (2008).

I wear glasses and every once in a while I will wear contacts.

Not from computer/video game use though.

I just have really bad astigmatism... I have no other correction on my lenses.

I've been a pretty big gamer since I was about 12. I am now 39.

I've been a gamer since I was 9 when we got the Nintendo 64 back in 2000. For PC gaming, it was just some games in the 1990's (point-n-click and puzzle games), especially ezone (Fat Boy raids the Cookie Factory), until 2005 when I got a copy of Battlefield 2 Deluxe Edition for the PC. Grew up around CRT monitors and TV sets, later on the LCD/LED displays and HDTVs (I have a 4K UHD TV in my room paired with my Xbox One S).

My vision is perfect. 20/15 in one eye and 20/17 in the other (that's "better" than 20/20) the last time I had an eye test. I'm 37.

My parents have pics of me staring at our Commodore 1702 when I was one year old. I literally grew up with PCs, and I was an early adopter of both high-speed internet & smartphones. I also used to read a novel every 2 or 3 days when I was a young teen. There's no corellation as far as my case goes.

I do have problem with pollen & smoke allergies making me constantly squint-y, but that's not an actual vision issue.

I have very bad vision but it has nothing to do with intensive computer use from early age (at least, that's what I tell everyone 🤣), it runs in the family: my mother was very near-sighted and both me and my two sisters inherited the treat.
