Hello everyone,

Just found something really cool err. heart warming.. 😀

It's a "documentary" about making Nixie tube.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wxL4ElboiuA

Best regards,
Jo22

PS: Does anybody remember those old glow wire displays ?
I found such displays under the "Numitron" and "Minitron" names,
but I'm not sure if they are what I remember.

That I remember are the predecessors of the 7 segment LEDs;
same form factor (no tubes) but with more "analogue" looking decimals.

I watched that documentary. Great stuff. He uses quite a bit of IKEA things!

Also, you mean these tubes?

I actually own one of the Numitron Nixie tube clocks. I have the first version of this before it had an official name and it doesn't feature some of the new enhancements they now come with. It is one of the most expensive things I've paid for in my game room.

Haha, yes, now that you're mentioning it. 😁

Comes close. I believe their casing was more square, though.

Thanks for the picture, too! The classic "handwriting style" of the numerals is pretty, I like it.
It reminde me a bit of my old school. Our physics teacher had a frequency counter with a similar display.
Since the school had no money for new tech, they kept using the older one from the 1970s and before.
This was one of the moments when I was happy that our school was "behind the moon".
