Hello all,

After fiddling with an old 1541 diskette drive for some time, I've decided the head is damaged. I've tried aligning the stepper motor speed and the head, and still nothing. I know it is not the logic board because I moved it to another 1541 (Alps) and it read the diskettes and ran programs.

After consulting http://personalpages.tds.net/~rcarlsen/cbm/1541/fix1541.txt and troubleshooting, I'm 80% sure the head is gone.

Where can I get a new head/working head from? Or a working Alps mechanical assembly? I've never had a C64 and I got one for free, everything else works except the drive. I'd love to see what the other side of computing in the 80s looked like.

Any leads on where I can get a head? I tried eBay but I cannot find anything but other dead drives with expensive shipping prices attached to them. I am not interested in emulated floppy systems, I want to repair the original drive and enjoy the noises and bangs these computers made.

Thanks!
