I watched some of it.
The dude is a hero of mine but I disagree with his pushing so hard for virtual reality. It's just not for me. Cool technology, yes, but has implications for the human mind that I do not like. But John Carmack is a walking computer anyway, so it makes sense for him.

Keenmaster yeah my thoughts too. Carmak was a diagnosed psychopath as a child so it not that surprising he sees nothing wrong with a matrix style existence just because a virtual world can be "better". And OP thanks for telling us who John Carmak.
